About Me

My Photo
I am named after trees. My surname means "tall and straight trees" that used to be abundant along the rivers of a Philippine town. Hadassah is derived from the hebrew "hadas" describing a species from the Myrtle family.

Summer is so here!

With all the sunshine and the yellowing of almost everything, it is so impossible to deny summer. It is here and all the beach escapades, the piña coladas, the melting ice creams, and long siestas roll inside my head like a film flick. But, summer has brought with it a rather unpleasant company, El Niño, and certainly no one wants it around. Water levels are plunging down and being largely supported by hydroelectric power, electricity supplies need to be cut down in Mindanao. Rotational brownouts were necessary.

Still, to declare that this summer’s short of the fun stuff would be a disaster. Summer is not going to be here forever and soon the rainy season will creep in and all the summer escapades would be half as fun. It is now time to plan our itinerary through the sunny season. Being the workaholics that we are and given our tight pockets, low cost antics are a priority. Too much spending is not allowed. In fact, combining gimmicks with work would be so good.

Summer is almost synonymous to swimming. Only losers lie on the hammocks and read books when the waves invite for a splash and all that skin waits to be sunburned. Problem is, i never learned a stroke. The only thing i can probably do on water is float and of course sink. And only losers sink. Unless I complete at least 20 meters of pure swimming before this summer ends, that means i probably remain in that category.

So see you soon Hinatuan River! I look forward to the enchantment you are supposed to give me. Can't wait to take a plunge!

See you soon, Tinuy-an Falls! Our timing would be perfect. With the summer already in its fullness, the water tables atop the falls would be so shallow that we can just walk from one side to the other.

Surely, these two great water beauties would be worth the long and rugged trip to Surigao del Sur. Everything will surely be fun!
